Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU)
arrested a woman in Murang’a County on July 18, 2025, over drug trafficking
allegations.
The arrest followed a tip-off from members of
the public, who reported suspicious activity at a residence in the Kandara area.
During the raid, officers recovered 13 gunny
bags filled with cannabis sativa, locally known as bhang, weighing
approximately 225 kilograms.
According to DCI, the seized drugs have an
estimated street value of Sh6.7 million.
Officers also found packaging materials
believed to be used for distribution, pointing to a possible drug trafficking
network in the region.
The suspect is currently being held in custody
as she awaits arraignment once police complete the necessary procedures.
DCI confirmed that the seized narcotics have
been secured and will be presented in court as evidence.
The public has been urged to continue
providing information through the DCI toll-free line 0800722203, with
assurances of confidentiality.
In a separate incident, another suspected drug
trafficker was arrested on July 16, 2025, in Kilifi County.
Police officers from Kilifi Police Station
apprehended the suspect in the Kibaoni area after acting on intelligence from
local residents.
Residents had raised concerns about suspicious
activities involving drug distribution in the neighbourhood.
Following the tip-off, officers laid an ambush
and conducted a successful operation that led to the suspect’s arrest.
“Upon searching the suspect, we recovered a
nylon packet containing 11 sachets of a substance suspected to be heroin,” the
National Police Service (NPS) said.
Police also recovered Sh800 in cash believed
to be proceeds from the illegal drug trade.
The suspect is being held at Kilifi Police
Station as investigations continue ahead of arraignment.
The seized drugs and cash have been retained
as exhibits for use during prosecution.
NPS praised members of the public for their
cooperation, saying timely information is critical in the fight against narcotics.
