Renowned rapper Dyana Cods publicly apologized to her fans for her prior remarks regarding her support for President William Ruto.
The ‘Set It” hitmaker was seen kneeling in a viral video on stage after delivering a performance.
Stating with visible remorse on her face, she asked for forgiveness from her fans expressing her love and appreciation for them.
“Na apologize to everybody, nawependa manze. Sorry for the words I said that hurt you. Nawependa mafans wangu sana, I choose you over any president,” the emotional “Chude genje” rapper said.
This comes after the Kenyan songbird questioned Kenyans for their criticism towards President Ruto only to later backtrack and state that she was ‘just joking.’
“I don’t understand the hate. God protect him. I love my president and I stand by that,” she wrote on her Instagram stories, triggering an avalanche of online backlash.

She then added in another post talking about Kenya’s leadership. “Just know a country with bad governance is better than one with no governance. You can’t change the current leader, but you can change the coming generation of leaders,” the “Get busy” rapper wrote.
Kenyans on social media reacted swiftly with some accusing her of being tone-deaf to the country’s socio-political climate.
This came during the raging protests regarding police brutality, murders and injustices in Kenya.
Cods was forced to pull down the controversial posts after the backlash.
“Sorry to the people I offended. Ilikuwa inside joke, kwani hamjui jokes,” she wrote.
Dyana Cods also said that the initial posts were sarcastic and not genuine support of the head of state. “Ata nyinyi mnajua gava zi. I stand with the people,” she wrote.
The Kenyan rapper also announced she’s working on a new track titled Zakayo Unashuka, a not-so-subtle nod to President Ruto’s nickname among critics.
In a twist, she disclosed that she put up the original posts as a game of truth or dare. Dyana said that she was to post for 24 hours but the criticism changed her mind. “Nimewachana na hiyo mchezo. #Wantam,” she signed off.
