Celebrity stylist and fashion designer Brian Babu has offered a rare behind-the-scenes look at the styling process for Bien’s visually striking music video, All My Enemies.
From culturally rooted symbolism to painstaking craftsmanship, Babu’s detailed breakdown has the industry buzzing.
In the first episode of what he calls a new chapter in sharing his creative journey, Babu opened up about styling Bien-Aimé Baraza for the powerful and culturally rich video.
The fashion, Babu reveals, was not just about aesthetics; it was layered with meaning and inspired by deep Kenyan roots.
“Bien wanted something that reflected Kenyan culture; Luo, Luhya, and more,” Babu explained.
“The first look in the video features Bien in a striking red jacket, a colour Babu says symbolises ritual and power. You know how Luos and Lunjes pray? The phrase ‘huyu aoshwe na damu’ (he should be washed in blood) inspired this. The red represents being covered in blood,” he said.
Next came the edgy snake print outfit, which Babu says carries a powerful metaphor.
“It’s about the people close to you who are like snakes. You imagine them shedding their skin, and that becomes your armour. You wear that betrayal and turn it into power — into a bomb-ass outfit.”
But perhaps the most show-stopping outfit of all was the jungle green ensemble featuring sisal frays.
According to Babu, this look was both a design and logistical challenge.
“I had to source the perfect fabric, then get a sample. From there, we searched for sisal, dyed it to the exact shade of green, and had every piece hand-sewn. It was intense but worth every minute.”
The team even filmed at Kakamega’s famed Crying Stone, blending authentic village aesthetics with modern design.
Local villagers were involved in creating the wardrobe for extras, including churchgoers in traditional attire, a move that grounded the video in cultural authenticity.
Comedian and content creator DJ Shitti also played a role in the video.
For years, fans and fashion enthusiasts have begged Babu to share his thought process behind the magic.
Now, with this new content series, he is finally letting the world into his world, starting with one of his most iconic projects yet.
