Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies were on Sunday tear-gassed and dispersed as they planned to hold a rally in Subukia in Nakuru.

They were led by the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) deputy party leader Cleophas Malala and Nayandarua Senator John Methu.

The leaders were initially blocked from holding a rally to address the residents when police erected roadblocks.

Police used tear gas to disperse the leaders and crowd which had already built up.

After hours of frustration, the leaders managed to hold a rally in the town and addressed the residents.

Malala condemned the incident, saying Kenyans have the right and freedom of expression and should not be taken away by anyone.

He placed the blame on the government, alleging that it is behind the incident to force them not to speak to citizens.

In a statement on X, Senator Methu thanked the residents for showing up to listen to them despite the frustrations.

“The state attempted to block our way to Nakuru at Subukia but failed terribly,” he said.

Gachagua who is out of the country thanked the leaders for representing him even when he is away.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our incredible team members, led by Nyandarua Senator John Methu and DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleo Malala, for representing me wholeheartedly in the ongoing course for public participation,” he said.

“Despite my absence, your dedication and commitment have kept the momentum strong, and the course for liberation remains on top gear.

Asanteni sana watu wa Nakuru! Tunawapenda”

The leaders began their day by attending the holy mass at the AIC Subukia Town church.
After which they held whistle stops across Nakuru County listening to the people.

“Meeting the good people of Subukia Town, listening to their sentiments and sharing with them our vision for a better Kenya courtesy of the DCP Party,” Malala said in a statement on X.
