The government has announced 4,000 internship opportunities under the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), targeting recent graduates across a wide range of professional disciplines.

The internships, which will last 12 months, are part of the state’s broader plan to enhance skills among young professionals while accelerating the delivery of affordable homes across the country.

In a public notice issued by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, the internship programme invites graduates in fields such as architecture, civil engineering, environmental science, law, ICT, and digital marketing, among others.

Each successful applicant will receive a monthly stipend as determined by the government.

“The internship programme is designed to offer graduates real-world experience across AHP and marketing project sites across the country, while also nurturing the next generation of professionals in housing and urban development,” the statement read in part.

Among the major allocations, 300 slots have been set aside for architecture graduates, 250 for construction management, and 200 each for professionals in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, quantity surveying, and structural engineering.

Other notable areas include Environment Practitioners and Communication/Branding (150) each, Urban and Regional Planning (150), Health and Safety (180), Social Development (165), Land Surveying/Geo Spatial and Landscape Architecture (100) each and Legal, Financial Analysis, Economics, ICT, and HR various positions ranging from 20 to 60 slots each.

The programme is open to individuals who have a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in any of the specified fields from a recognized institution, graduated in 2018 or later, and are proficient in computer skills.

Interns will be tasked with duties such as supporting professional teams in the implementation of housing projects, documenting skills acquired during deployment, and participating in mentorship activities.

“This is not only a chance to serve the country but also to gain valuable work experience in a dynamic and critical sector,” the department said.

Upon successful completion of the programme, interns will be awarded a certificate by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, a credential that may boost their employability in both public and private sectors.

Applications must be submitted online through the Public Service Commission’s job portal www.publicservice.go.ke or www.psckjobs.go.ke no later than September 6, 2025.
