The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has firmly dismissed recent media reports suggesting it lacks control over its own systems.
This follows claims that NTSA does not have full control of the Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS).
TIM’s system handles services like vehicle registration and transfer of ownership, exposing it to revenue leakages and data breaches.
In a press release issued on July 23, 2025, the Authority clarified that it fully owns and manages the Transport Integrated Management System, which serves as the central point for all its services.
NTSA emphasized that the system is “fully owned and controlled by NTSA, with complete intellectual property (IP) rights vested in the Authority.”
This comes amid growing scrutiny over the security and functionality of government digital platforms.
The Authority stated that it has made significant investments in its IT infrastructure.
These investments include robust cybersecurity measures, reliable servers, enhanced storage infrastructure, and a secure network environment.
NTSA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public data and ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.
In its efforts to enhance system security, NTSA has implemented a Zero Trust Network Architecture.
This model ensures “high security and identity-based access,” reducing the risk of unauthorized system breaches.
NTSA also highlighted its integration with other key government systems. According to the statement, NTSA systems are seamlessly connected to the eCitizen platform for Single Sign On (SSO), payment gateways, and revenue reporting.
The data, workflows, and processes run entirely on NTSA infrastructure.
To support its operational efficiency, NTSA said it leverages advanced analytics tools.
“The Authority uses an advanced big data analytics platform to integrate all sources of data to provide deep analytics, insights on the Authority operations to enhance efficiency and support informed decision making,” the release read.
Additionally, the Authority disclosed that its ICT staff undergo continuous training to stay abreast of emerging technologies.
This enables the team to address NTSA’s evolving digital needs and maintain the integrity of its systems.
“To this end, the Authority affirms its commitment to proactively maintaining, improving, and securing its systems, while fostering trust among stakeholders and providing high-quality services to the public,” the statement concluded.
The Transport Integrated Management System remains the backbone of NTSA’s operations, and the Authority insists it is secure, locally managed, and constantly updated to match Kenya’s fast-changing digital landscape.
