Garissa High School are the new Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) North Eastern Region boys football champions.

They were crowned alongside other winners as the region’s Term Two games ended at County High School, Garissa.

They beat Hadado Secondary School from Wajir County 3-1 in the final to book their ticket to the National Term Two games that begin on Tuesday in Kakamega.

Garissa completed the boys eight-team lineup that will be battling for glory and tickets to the East Africa games that the country will host at the same venue from August 14 to 23.

Hon DM Amin from Wajir stamped authority as they successfully defended their basketball 3×3 and netball titles to maintain their consistency on the national stage.

They edged out Takaba Girls 9-4 to retain the basketball 3×3 trophy. They thrashed Garissa’s NEP Girls 20-1 in the semis, while Takaba had dismissed Rhamu from Mandera 6-4.

Wajir High School defeated Takaka 11-7 to be crowned boys’ basketball 3X3 champions. All basketball 3X3 finalists will represent the region in Kakamega. D M Amin exerted their dominance over NEP, beating them 18-16 to get a firm grip on their netball gong.

Furaha Secondary School and Eldas Girls Secondary School bagged volleyball trophies after triumphing in their respective final matches. Darul Hikma Day High School from Mandera County were casualties, as their boys’ and girls’ teams lost in both finals.

Furaha booked their return to the national scene with a 25-15, 25-23, 20-25, and 25-19. It was a bad day in the office for Darul Hikma as Eldas came from a set down to secure a 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-18) to secure their national debut. Garissa High School and Wajir Girls High School will represent North Eastern in racquet games.

North Eastern secretary Bontore Bishar said that they were looking forward to improved performances from the teams.

“Our standards are gradually improving, and our performances at the national games are also getting better. Our regional games are more competitive now, which is a plus for our growth,” Bishar said.
