In a remarkable display of concentration and skill, David Karuma triumphed in the eighth edition of the Tee-Off with Crown series, scoring an impressive 41 stableford points while playing off handicap nine, at the Thika Sports Club over the weekend.

His secret weapon, however, was not a new set of clubs or lucky charm; it was the peaceful solitude of the course itself, providing a welcome escape from his usual playing companions.

The eighth edition drew a field of 240 golfers, resulting in a day filled with competition and camaraderie on the greens.

“Thanks to the draw, I escaped the usual harassment I undergo with my usual team. Luckily, I didn’t play with them today, and I avoided our match, which is usually a war, so the peace I enjoyed with my flight today provided a conducive environment to play well,” stated Karuma.

His outstanding performance earned him the overall title in a tightly contested event. James Ndichu, playing off handicap 16, also recorded 41 stableford points to secure the overall second prize.

In the competitive Division One Men, Ben Mugambi, playing off handicap eight, took the top spot with 34 stableford points, Naomi Kimata excelled in the Division One Ladies category, scoring 37 stableford points.

Leading in Division Two, Maina Ruo, playing off handicap 15, starred with a compact score of 40 stableford points, and Irene Kamutu inked 38 stableford points to star.

In the Supplementary categories, Bruno Macharia claimed the Men’s winner prize with a score of 39 stableford points, while Emmah Kimani won the Lady’s title with a score of 32 stableford points.

Young and talented golfer Riya Shah impressed as the Junior winner with a score of 37 stableford points, showcasing the bright future of Kenyan golf. Paul Karanja was declared the Guest winner with a score of 37 stableford points.

The Longest Drive honours went to Anthony Mwaura for Men and Lucy Maina for the ladies, while Arthur Kamanja and Caroline Nzivo demonstrated remarkable accuracy by winning Nearest to Pin awards for Men and Ladies, respectively.
