What was once hailed as Nairobi’s ultimate romantic gesture has just been exposed as the greatest birthday bluff of the decade!
Businesswoman Sarah Mtalii has sensationally revealed that the flashy Sh30 million black Range Rover Sport her estranged husband, Bonfire Adventures CEO Simon Kabu, “gifted” her during her 39th birthday was not a surprise present but her own hard-earned buy!
Speaking in an interview, Sarah poured cold water on the glitzy 2017 birthday stunt that saw Koinange Street brought to a standstill.
According to her, the high-end car that many believed was a token of love from Kabu was, in fact, a five-year personal savings project.
“It was just a way to make people believe that Kabu is the one who gave me the car,” Sarah boldly declared, finally lifting the lid on what many thought was couple goals personified.
The unforgettable scene involved a towering five-tier red velvet cake, a convoy that stopped traffic, and a glamorous after-party at Kiza Lounge.
Kabu, then glowing with pride, told the media, “She was working and not at home, so I brought the surprise to the office.”
Sarah too had played along at the time. Gushing in a past interview, she said, “The Range Rover Sport has always been my dream. I wanted to own one by 40, but my husband surprised me at 39. I was over the moon.”
The moment became the stuff of social media legend, complete with envy from men who felt Kabu had “set the bar too high” for birthday gifting.
But with this revelation, Sarah has rewritten the script.
The narrative of the magnanimous husband and the lucky wife has now morphed into one of a woman who quietly hustled for her dream ride while her partner basked in the praise.
The revelation comes as the two continue navigating a very public and messy separation, marked by jabs, accusations, and social media snipes.
As the dust settles, one thing is clear: sometimes the cake is sweet, but the icing is pure spin.
