Mombasa couple Paul Munyao and Caroline Munyao emerged winners of this year’s Boys Hinderers Cup golf tournament, played at the Mombasa Golf Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

The Munyaos recorded a brilliant combined score of 42 Stableford points to clinch the overall team winner’s prize in the main competition, which featured 80 pairs.

“The Boys Hinderers Cup is a tournament played by couples against couples. I was privileged to play with my wife Caroline, and we’re lucky that our ‘A’ game showed up today. We’re delighted with the win, which we managed against very strong competition.

Our approach was about having fun, enjoying the chemistry, and trusting each other’s golf shots and decisions. Besides, we had an amazing four-ball playing with us, who also played very well. In fact, today is our proudest moment after both of us played our best game,” said Munyao, who is also the club’s immediate past chairman.

The day-long 18-hole tournament at the par-71 sea-link course was sponsored by the club captain, George Mokaya.

Owen Kwali, who teamed up with Mary Mariga, claimed the runners-up slot with 41 points, while left-handed golfer Elijah Ibua, playing with Grace Kwamboka, carded 40 points to finish third.

Elsewhere, at the Nyali Golf and Country Club on the same day, handicap 27 Rise Njogo recorded 48 points to emerge overall winner of the Johnnie Walker Classic golf tournament.

Liban Roba, playing off handicap 5, was the Men’s Best Gross winner with 80 gross, while handicap 7 Alysa Jamal won the same category from the Ladies’ side, also with 80 gross.

At Sigona, Nirmla Devi was over the moon after winning the return leg of the Tee Off with Crown series on Saturday.

The previous tournament had been cancelled in May after heavy rains flooded the course, forcing the competition committee to declare it unplayable.

Devi emerged victorious, showcasing perseverance and skill at her home club. Playing off handicap 25, she scored a commendable 42 Stableford points, reflecting her exceptional play throughout the challenging par-72 course.

“My victory today wasn’t just about long hits. It was a testament to meticulous course management and a putter that finally listened to me. On eight or nine holes, I needed only a single putt. That’s the difference between playing a round and winning one,” said Devi.

Pradip Shah came second with 42 Stableford points.

At the Thika Greens Golf Resort, Ronnie Muraya, playing off handicap 20, stood out above the rest, amassing 45 Stableford points to be crowned the CEO (Hon Charles Kibiru) Golf Day overall winner.

In the Gross category, Peter Maregwa, a formidable golfer with a handicap of 6, shot 73 gross to take the top spot, followed by Kelvin Mwaura, who put in an excellent round of 75 gross.

The men’s and ladies’ divisions saw some standout rounds. Jimmy Ndiritu claimed the Men’s Winner title with a fantastic 44 Stableford points, edging out HJones Kimeu, who scored 42 points.
