It was a sweet revenge for Strathmore Leos against KCB as they lifted the Prinsloo Sevens title at Nakuru Athletic Club on Sunday.

The final showdown, however, prepared the two teams for the Christie Sevens to be hosted at the Rugby Football Union of East African Grounds in Nairobi on Saturday August 9.

When the two teams reached the finals of Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa, the bankers snatched it away with a narrow 15-14 win over Leos who seemed to be improving with every match.

And Leos were able to get sweet revenge at the Prinsloo finals when they hammered the bankers 24-7 to sound a stern warning of their ambition of taking the leadership of the event as the tournament starts to take shape in the chase for top honours.

In the semi-final matches, one team easily won her match while the other struggled.

Leos thumped Catholic University Monks 40-0 while KCB had to struggle before securing a 10-5 victory over a stubborn Menengai Oilers side who are not at their best compared to last season.

However, Oliers Sevens coach Lawrence Buyachi said they are taking a tournament at a time with a focus on improving in all the series of the circuit.

“Our aim is to finish at the medal bracket and we are still within that reach in the remaining legs of the event,” he told Standard Sports. Oilers finished fifth in the Driftwood Sevens.

Equally, Prinsloo defending champions Kabras Sugar were not at their best after falling off in the quarters in the hands of KCB who defeated them 17-5.

Unlike their male counterparts who were thrown off in the quarter-finals of the Main Cup, Mwamba RFC lifted the Women’s Prinsloo Sevens title after beating Kenya Harlequin 15-10.

Mwamba were made to struggle before overcoming the stubborn Quins.

In the Prinsloo Division Two championships, Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad secured a 10-5 win over Kabarak University to win the title.
