Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on investigating agencies to record statements from his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, over claims he made during his US tour linking President William Ruto and the Kenyan government to terrorist activities.

According to DP Kindiki, Gachagua’s statements will help the security agencies gather intelligence to counter the alleged planned terrorist attacks.

“I hear there is a leader who spoke outside Kenya and said they have information that can help us pre-empt any attack by Al-Shabaab because they have information on who and where plans to terrorise Kenyans are being made,” said Kindiki.

“We therefore want to ask the relevant agencies to make sure that the people who are saying they have information on terrorists and criminals are held accountable, and they must record their statement so that they can help investigations to protect Kenya from harm,” he added.

The Deputy President warned that Gachagua’s failure to volunteer the information he has on the alleged attacks may prompt the authorities to take action against him.

Kindiki’s sentiments were echoed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who accused Gachagua of being unpatriotic and a sellout who trivialised serious matters of national security, tarnishing the country’s image and scaring away foreign investors.

“As soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists. We have joked for far too long. It is unbelievable,” said Murkomen.

The two leaders spoke in Keiyo South Constituency during an economic empowerment drive for small businesses on Saturday, August 9.

Rigathi Gachagua has thrown his weight behind  US Senator Jim Risch, who has petitioned Congress to assess Kenya’s military and defence cooperation with the US.

Risch has accused Kenya of adopting a friendly stance with nations that are hostile to the US, specifically Russia, China, and Iran, in addition to alleged connections to extremist groups, including Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Al-Shabaab.

“The Americans want to have an investigation to unearth your (Ruto) business dealings with Hemedti and RSF in Sudan, where you are doing gold business and reciprocity supplying arms to the terrorist group to kill women and children,” Gachagua claimed in one of the meetings.

“You cannot run away. We have evidence. I was your deputy when those meetings took place. I have all the details, and we are giving them to the Americans.”

Further, Gachagua urged Kenyans living in the US to lobby their elected representatives to support the National Defense Authorization Act aiming to strip Kenya of its Major Non-NATO Ally (MNNA) status.
