Harambee Stars players are set to receive another Sh 1 million each from President William Ruto following their win over Morocco.

State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Sunday announced after the match that the president will fulfil his promise on Monday.

Earlier, before the match, the president had promised to play his part in the pledge, urging players and spectators to play their part in victory.

“I had promised Harambee Stars that if they won, each player would receive Sh 1 million. If they finish drawing, I pay half a million per player. I have already paid the Sh1 million per person and half a million for the draw. I urge you to pray for Harambee Stars to win, so let everyone play their part,” President Ruto said.

The team had shown resilience today after  stunning Morocco 1-0 in a 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group A match played at Kasarani Stadium.

Kenya’s victory came despite a first-half setback when Crispine Erambo was shown a straight red card shortly after Ryan Ogam scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute.

The result stretched Harambee Stars’ lead at the top of Group A to seven points and secured their place in the quarterfinals.

Moments after the final whistle, President Ruto congratulated the team for their resilience, reiterating his urge to fulfil the Sh 1million promise.

“Once again, the resilient, indomitable Kenyan spirit has roared to life at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani! Harambee Stars stood tall, defying the odds to defeat one of the tournament’s giants – Morocco – even after being reduced to 10 men for much of the match,” he stated.

“Kenya is rising. We are conquering arenas where no one thought we could stand, let alone triumph. This is Kenya. We believe. We fight. We rise. Congratulations to our boys – mumecheza kama nyinyi. Sasa nitacheza kama mimi!”

The president had already given out Sh 1million each to the players following their win over DR Congo.

The stars also held Angola to a 1-1  draw in the Group A clash on Thursday, as the presidential pledge now rounds up to Sh 2.5 million.
