Football star Cristiano Ronaldo has proposed to his long-term partner, Georgina Rodríguez.
Rodríguez announced the news on Instagram, sharing a picture of a large diamond ring alongside a heartfelt caption in Spanish: “Yes I do. In this and in all my lives.”
No further details have been shared, but the announcement has sparked fascination with the engagement ring, which jewellery experts have valued at over Sh258 million ($2 million).
According to People magazine, engagement ring specialist Laura Taylor described Rodríguez’s ring as “extraordinary,” estimating it to be an oval-cut diamond ranging between 15 to 20 carats.
“Oval cuts are known for their brilliant faceting, which maximises sparkle and gives the stone a bright, lively appearance from every angle,” Taylor said.
She speculated that the diamond is flanked by substantial side stones to make the centrepiece “look even larger,” with the setting in platinum for “security” and to enhance its colour.
“If the diamond is natural and of exceptional quality in the D-F colour range with flawless or near-flawless clarity, its value could easily exceed $2 million,” she added.
Ronaldo, the most followed person on Instagram, has not yet commented on the engagement.
Rodríguez, an Argentine-Spanish model, social media personality, and entrepreneur, began her career as a sales assistant at a Gucci store in Madrid, where she met Ronaldo in 2016 while he was playing for Real Madrid.
She has since modelled for brands such as Gucci, Prada, and Chanel, and appeared on magazine covers including Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. She also runs her own fashion line, OM by G, and a fragrance brand, Georgina for Laverne.
The 31-year-old, who starred in her Netflix reality series I Am Georgina, previously addressed speculation about her engagement on the show, saying her friends “were always joking about the wedding.”
“Since Jennifer Lopez’s song ‘The Ring or When’ came out, they started singing it to me. And well, this is not up to me,” she said.
Famous faces including Kim Kardashian have liked the engagement post, while British broadcaster Piers Morgan, who interviewed Ronaldo in 2022, wished them “as much success in their marriage as he’s had on the football pitch.”
