The rift within the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) is growing wider despite holding a National Executive Council crisis meeting on Tuesday to iron out issues.
This stood out when the Deputy leader of the party and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, walked out of a joint presser with the party leader Eugene Wamalwa before it concluded.
Wamalwa went on to accuse President William Ruto of fuelling the wrangles destabilising the political outfit.

Speaking after the NEC meeting at the party’s headquarters in Karen, Nairobi, he alleged that President Ruto was sponsoring divisions within DAP-K, insisting his efforts would not succeed.
“We are aware of the level of infiltration and the attempts to destabilise our party,” he said. “DAP is not going to be divided, intimidated or blackmailed into supporting the so-called broad-based government. We will stand with the people,” he added.
Natembeya and Wamalwa are locked in a leadership tussle, with rival petitions seeking the removal of each as party leader and deputy leader, respectively.
On Tuesday, the party announced that the meeting has established a tribunal to look into the petitions and come up with recommendations within 30 days.
“They have got a mandate to listen to both the petitioners and the respondents, (1:26) and take their views to a fair hearing, and come up with a recommendation. (1:32) Those recommendations will be forwarded to the National Executive Council,” said the party Secretary General Eseli Simiyu.
However, Natembeya left and convened a separate presser at a nearby venue, accusing some NEC members of wrecking the party.
“Hiyo uchafu na takataka ya Ford Kenya wamebeba wameleta kwa DAP. We are saying no to that. We are team change and team Tawe. We are not going to let down the people of Western and Kenya,” he said.
He dismissed the allegations that he is being used by the President to divide the party.
