Traffic at Uhuru Highway/Langata roads roundabout next to Nyayo National Stadium ahead of CHAN 2024 between Morocco- Zambia on August 14, 2025 [Elvis Ogina, Standard]

Motorists in Nairobi have to brace for major traffic disruptions this afternoon, and into the evening, as the  city hosts the Africa Championship (CHAN) tournament.

The partial and full road closures, alongside traffic diversions were however not officially announced by authorities, but are meant to ease movement around the affected routes.

A spot check by The Standard on Thursday revealed that sections of Uhuru Highway, Lang’ata road and Thika round were closed.

Routes leading to the Nyayo National Stadium, host to the Morocco Vs Zambia match are closed. Aerodrome Road was closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.

One side of Langata Road (between Madaraka and Lusaka Roundabouts) and one side of Mombasa Road (from Lusaka to Bunyala Roundabout) was also inaccessible.

Motorists who were caught in the morning traffic had to find alternative routes.

Those on Mombasa Road heading to the CBD were forced to use Likoni–Enterprise Road at General Motors or the Southern Bypass at Ole Sereni.

Those on Langata Road bound for the city centre diverted via Raila Odinga Road (formerly Mbagathi way) or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout.

Kasarani Stadium will be hosting Angola and DR Congo match which kicks off at 8pm.
