National football boys’ champions St Joseph Boy’s Kitale kicked off their East Africa campaign on the front foot Saturday after thrashing Burundian outfit Mpanda 6-0 at Kakamega High School.

The Rift Valley heavyweights had a two-day rest before hitting the pitch and many fans were waiting to see their champions after Musingu, Agai and Butere Boys all played in the opening two days of the week long regional schools championships.

Agai and Musingu had already bagged wins in their opening matches as Butere Boys remained firm after late call up to the East Africa games, managing two draws against Budoo from Uganda and 0-0 against Tanzanian outfit Kizuka.

In girl’s football, Butere Girls also hit the road running after hammering Fountain Gate from Tanzania 4-1. The national champs had begun the games with a disappointing0-0 draw against Amus College from Uganda.
