Royal Nairobi Golf Club’s lady golfer Ashley Awuor came out blazing in a hotly contested scene to be crowned the 2025 Kenya Ladies Open Amateur Match Play Champion at Limuru Country Club in Kiambu County at the weekend.
Awuor who was the runner up in the same tournament last year, proved no joke this time beating home club’s Nancy Wairimu 3&1 in the finals to claim the overall title.
“It is such an honor to win this prestigious tournament for emerging top lady golfers from around the country and the region. I am happy with the result and my game was all going all well in this excellent course. I now look forward to playing even better in the upcoming tournaments and promise to display my best talent,” said Awuor.

Wairimu was pushed to the runners up spot while Muthaiga’s Hazel Kuria and Njoro’s Mercy Nyanchama were the first and second semi-finalists respectively.
Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) organised the three days’ tournament featuring elite Lady players from the Country and East African Region, is the oldest and most prestigious amateur women’s golf tournament in the country with a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and a Golfer of the Year (GOTY) competition.
Royal Nairobi’s Penny Wambui was the Division A match play winner, overcoming club mate runners up placed Caroline Kadinyi by 3 and 4 as home club’s Mukami Wangai emerged the semi-finalist one and Nyanza golf club’s Rosemary Obara was the semi-finalist two winner.
Stella Ondimu also from Royal Nairobi claimed the Division B match play top slot after displacing Vet lab’s Archna Bulsara to runners up place on 5 & 4 and club mate’s Farida Limo and Limuru’s Agnes Nyambura were the semi-finalist one and two respectively.
The Sunday Subsidiaries winner on 36 points was handicap Adah Munyendo of Royal Nairobi, while handicap 26 Carol Jeptoo of Limuru carded 34 points to claim the runners up spot and taking the third place on 36 points was club mate handicap 25 Jackline Sirai .
KLGU Chairperson Rosemary Mkok was excited to witness the competitive spirit and skills displayed and thanked all the ladies for their support towards making the tournament successful.
“It has been three days of enjoyment with the best talents displayed at the course in this fantastic competition and I’m looking forward to meeting you all again in our coming tournaments. We also thank this club for the preparations and to all who got involved, enjoyed everything and also made some memories on the course, “said Mkok.

Elsewhere, handicap 22 Suresh Hirani beat a team of 197 players to emerge the overall winner of the Crossroads golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali golf and country club course in Mombasa county.
Hirani carded a brilliant 42 points to claim the top post beating handicap 23 Muzahim Taib to the Men winner’s slot by a single points difference while handicap while handicap 20 Sanjay Kotecha recorded a count back score of 40 points after tying on the same score with third laced handicap 6 Charles Rob.
Truphena Oyaro playing off handicap 15 topped in the Lady’s category after playing 37 points and handicap 32 Juliet Winja brought 36 points for the runners up slot.
The junior prize on 50 points was won by handicap 42 Erston Nyongesa while handicap 21 Philip Ivia on 42 points and handicap 38 Paul Kiagi with 41 points were the guest and high handicappers winners respectively.
At Kericho golf club, handicap 21 Julius Rono was the overall winner in the Road to Somabay-Egypt golf tournament after carding 41 points while handicap 17 Vivian Amusala brought 36 points to claim the runners up slot.
David Niegon playing off handicap 8 was the first runner up on 36 points, count back tying on the same score with handicap 20 Nickson Kiplagat who was the runners up.
The man winner on 36 points was handicap 5 Ignatius Ngetich and handicap 35 Judy Chebon also brought the same 36 points to win the lady’s prize.
The Division A (HC 1-15) qualifiers are David Biegon and Ignatius Ngetich while those for Division B (HC 16-54) are Julius Rono and Judy Chebon.
