Kenya’s Harambee Stars will each receive Sh3 million following their stunning unbeaten run in the group stage of the ongoing CHAN tournament, capped with a decisive win against Zambia.

The reward comes after ODM leader Raila Odinga pledged Sh500,000 to every player, on top of the Sh2.5 million per player commitment earlier made by President William Ruto after the Stars’ memorable 1-0 victory over Morocco last week.

Speaking in the dressing room after the hard-fought triumph over Chipolopolo, Raila praised the team’s resilience and spirit.
“You have played well and raised our flag high. Congratulations,” he said, adding that he wanted to personally thank the team for defeating continental giants Morocco, DR Congo, and Zambia.
“I was very much worried because I knew if we drew or lost, you were going to play outside Nairobi. But you kept them aside and eventually scored. Congratulations.”

President Ruto, applauded the players for uniting the nation.
“Congratulations, Harambee Stars! You have done the nation proud, inspired immense joy, and united our country. Now, march forward and conquer the continent. Do not settle for less just as we, as a nation, must never settle for anything less than glory,” he said.

The Head of State reiterated his earlier promise, assuring players that the funds would be delivered.
“As for me, nitacheza kama mimi. After all, dawa ya deni ni kulipa. Even the following game, you should start preparing as promised. Mapema kesho sio,” he affirmed.

Kenya sealed the win courtesy of Ryan Ogam’s second-half strike, a goal that not only eliminated Zambia from the tournament with zero points but also ensured Kenya finished top of Group A with 10 points, one clear of Morocco.

Team captain Aboud Omar thanked the leaders and fans for their support:
“As a team, we thank you for standing with us. You promised us and we assure you, this trophy will remain here.”

Fans, too, celebrated the performance. Morris Mulwa, a die-hard supporter, noted:
“Kenya is playing a very structured football. For the first time I’m seeing 68 percent ball possession. The coach deserves credit. Kenya is playing a beautiful game.”

The Stars now turn their focus to a quarterfinal clash against Madagascar in Nairobi on Friday, with the nation firmly behind them.
