After the Harambee Stars’ heroic 1-0 win over Morocco, Bahati pledged to reward the team with Sh1 million as a show of support.
However, weeks later, the promise remains just that: a promise.
Instead, Diana Marua has been busy flexing her wealth on Instagram, a move that has left fans furious. Over the weekend, Diana posted a flashy reel inside her Range Rover, showing off wads of cash amounting to Sh2 million.
With a cheeky caption, she wrote, “But first allow me to make more money!!! Jina bila pesa, balaa. Haloooo.”
This came barely days after she had flaunted receipts of a Sh167,000 grocery shopping spree, which already had netizens side-eyeing her. The timing could not have been worse. Kenyans are demanding Bahati honor his pledge to the national team.
Facing mounting criticism, Bahati explained that FIFA protocols had barred him from entering the Harambee Stars’ dressing room, preventing him from immediately delivering the cash.
Still, he insisted he would fulfill the pledge: “AHADI NI DENI!!! Just spoke with FKF Deputy Chairperson @Mariga77. He has allowed us to hand over the KSh1 million to the Harambee Stars players. As CEO of Bahati.Bet, I am committed to supporting the Stars until we win this CHAN.”
But sports personality Fred Arocho isn’t buying it, revealing how elusive Bahati has been.
“Bahati is a friend lakini hapa hakuna urafiki. He is avoiding his promise to Harambee Stars. Mariga told me he called Bahati who claimed he was in Naivasha shooting. Later, after the Zambia game, they couldn’t reach him. Rafiki yangu Bahati, ulisema utatoa Sh1 million, hiyo pesa utaitoa,” Arocho stated.
Adding fuel to the fire, Harambee Stars forward Boniface Muchiri confirmed that the team is yet to see a cent of Bahati’s pledge.
“Bahati promised, and we don’t know if he has brought it… We don’t know if he has given it out,” the lethal Harambee Stars player said.
What irks Kenyans even more is that others have already fulfilled their promises.
President William Ruto has already cleared his pledge, pushing the team’s total bonus to Sh5 million.
In contrast, Bahati and Diana’s flaunting of wealth while stalling on their promise has painted them as out of touch with the fans’ passion and the team’s sacrifice.
