Former handball champions Moi Girls Kamusinga and national finalists St Joseph’s Girls High School Kitale are through to the semi-finals of the ongoing East Africa school games here in Kakamega.

The Kenyan girls have had a good run and will on Thursday clash with their Ugandan counterparts in hunt for final slots.

The have had a perfect run finishing on top of their respective groups without dropping a point.

On Tuesday, Kamusinga registered an impressive 26-11 win against Tanzania’s Maweni Secondary School to top Group B with 10 points.

St Joseph’s were also no match for their Group A opponents garnering the maximum eight points.

They beat Diongoya also from Tanzania 29-14 to end their preliminary ties unscathed.

Kamusinga and St Joseph’s will be looking to set an all-Kenyan final when they play Uganda’s Kawanda Secondary School and Mbogo High School in the semis. The Ugandans finished second in their respective pools.

In volleyball, the homegirls confirmed an all-Kenyan last four battle after shoving their guests out of the title race.

Defending champions Kesogon Mixed Secondary School and Bishop Sulumeti advanced to the semis in Group B, while former holders Kwanthanze Secondary School and Soweto Academy snatched Group A slots.

Bishop Sulumeti recovered from Monday’s 3-1 defeat to compatriots Kesogon to dismiss Rwanda’s St Aloys 3-0(25-19, 25-14, 25-6) to secure a second spot behind Kesogon who are yet to lose a match.

Record East Africa champions Kwanthanze maintained their winning streak with a dominant 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-14) display against Uganda’s Katikamu SDA.

With their guests out of the title race, Kwanthanze will battle it out with Bishop Sulumeti, while Kesogon booked a date with Soweto.

In the boys’ title chase, former East Africa champions Cheptil High School are the only Kenyan side still standing.

This is after Malava High School, Gogo Mixed, Mwaluphamba Secondary School and St Peter’s Mumias were bundled out of the competition.

Cheptil must now single-handedly ensure they reclaim the title last won by Friends Secondary School Namwela in 2023.

However, they face an uphill task going against defending champions LT St Luc from Burundi in the semis.

The other last four encounter will be an all-Uganda affair pitting Bukedea Comprehensive and Namgongo.
