Grammy Award–winning rapper Lil Nas X has been arrested in Los Angeles following a bizarre confrontation with police officers.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) were called to Ventura Boulevard after reports of a man walking in the street wearing only underwear, according to BBC.
When officers arrived, they say the Montero (Call Me By Your Name) hitmaker lunged at them, leading to his arrest on suspicion of assault.
Police later confirmed the rapper, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was taken to hospital for evaluation amid concerns of a possible overdose before being booked into custody.
Videos shared by TMZ showed the Industry Baby star dancing in underwear and cowboy boots, urging passers-by to “come to the party.”
Another clip published by The Shade Room appeared to show him completely nude while rapping Nicki Minaj’s verse from Monster.
The spectacle sparked a flood of reactions across social media.
The arrest comes just weeks after Lil Nas X announced his upcoming sophomore album Dreamboy, teasing new music on Instagram.
Lil Nas X first rose to global fame with Old Town Road, which broke Billboard records and won him two Grammys.
His career has also been marked by controversy, notably the provocative video for Montero (Call Me By Your Name), which attracted criticism but has since racked up over 350 million YouTube views.
The rapper remains in custody in Los Angeles, with a court appearance expected in the coming days.
