Cummins C&G has launched a modern engine rebuild centre in Nairobi, a facility designed to improve service and support for Cummins engines and power equipment across East Africa.
The centre, located along Lusaka Road, was officially opened on Monday, August 25, 2025, by Cummins C&G Managing Director Erick Sangoro, Car & General (Kenya) Plc CEO Vijay Gidoomal, and Ignacio Gonzalez, Executive Director of Cummins Powergen Markets EMEIA.
Speaking at the event, Gidoomal said the partnership between Cummins’ technical expertise and Car & General’s deep market knowledge had strengthened the brand in the region.
“This has enabled us to keep our mantra of making customers smile in every street, every town,” he said.
The new facility is equipped with a dynamometer testing system, which allows generators to be connected to a dyno load bank that simulates real-life conditions.
The system measures performance under different loads, including power output, fuel efficiency, cooling system reliability, and exhaust emissions.
Sangoro explained that the technology ensures quality and reliability before equipment is deployed.
“Dyno testing verifies rated capacity, ensures genset reliability and safety, validates designs and repairs, and detects issues like unstable voltage, overheating, and poor fuel efficiency early. This reduces the risk of field failures while building customer confidence,” he said.
In addition to generator testing, the centre will handle engine rebuilds, restoring worn-out or damaged generator engines to near-new condition.
Rebuilt engines, Sangoro noted, provide efficiency and longer service life. The workshop will also serve as a technical training hub for customers, giving them hands-on knowledge of maintaining and operating their equipment.
Gonzalez highlighted the broader relationship between Cummins and Car & General, describing it as a partnership that goes beyond business transactions.
“We are happy about the collaboration between C&G and Cummins Inc. that focuses on ensuring customers remain satisfied,” he said.
Car & General was appointed the official Cummins distributor in 2006. In 2017, the two companies formed a 50:50 joint venture, Cummins C&G. In 2023, Car & General reacquired Cummins’ stake, making it a wholly owned subsidiary once again.
Car & General is a leading distributor of motorcycles, three-wheelers, tractors, forklifts, generators, earthmovers, and other equipment in East Africa.
Through Cummins C&G, it represents the Cummins brand in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, and Seychelles.
