Two of Kenya’s most influential female voices, rapper Femi One and artist-activist Onejiru, are set to represent East African talent at the upcoming Afro Futuristic Convention in collaboration with the prestigious Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany.
The event, titled “Future Frequencies,” will take place on September 19, 2025 (Friday), at the Schmidtchen Theater.
“I’m here for the festival and this year’s theme was on menstrual hygiene and as you know im a proud menstrual hygiene and maternal health champion,” Femi One posted on her socials.
The Afro Futuristic Convention, an initiative by Onejiru’s organization Future Female Africa, is a partner event of the Reeperbahn Festival. It serves as a platform to highlight groundbreaking voices from Africa and the diaspora, with a core focus on cultural identity, activism, and female empowerment.
Onejiru Arfmann, a creative entrepreneur and activist who is the founder of Future Female Africa and the driving force behind the convention itself. Onejiru, who splits her time between Nairobi and Hamburg, is dedicated to advancing cultural justice, systemic change, and female leadership.
Through her work with partners like Viva con Agua and Keychange, she has created a network that empowers female leaders from across Africa and the diaspora, making her not only an artist but a key figure in the global movement for female representation in the arts.
The Reeperbahn Festival, Europe’s largest club festival and one of the most significant international music industry gatherings, will provide the ideal stage for this important conversation.
By bringing together these powerful voices, the Afro Futuristic Convention aims to inspire new perspectives and foster a shared future that celebrates the rich and diverse sounds of Africa.
