Kenyan artiste Willy Paul has dismissed claims that he sold his music catalogue, following the release of his latest track Ngunga featuring VJ Patelo and his wife Dee in the music video.

Addressing content creator and self-proclaimed critic Sabato, Willy Paul called him out for spreading unverified allegations.

“Kuna wasee hii country hawapendi kuona mtu aki live large. Mimi siwezi uza catalogue yangu. Na kama kuna kampuni wameuziwa catalogue, wajitokeze. Uliza distributors wangu kama nimeuza catalogue,” the Society hitmaker said.

He further explained that he has several thriving businesses and does not rely solely on music to make a living, contrasting himself with artistes who fell into poverty after short-lived careers.

“Mimi si kama hao wasanii wengine wenye hawajui kuimba. Siku hizi maisha ni ngumu kwao. Boss, mimi niko na biashara zangu zenye zina do poa. Next time before uongee, get your facts straight. Mimi si hao wasanii wenye lazima niuze catalogue ndo ni survive,” he added.

Willy Paul’s remarks come amid concerns over the struggles of once-popular artistes, with former Sailors Gang member Shalkido recently appealing for help online after revealing his modest living conditions.

Reactions to the singer’s defense were mixed.

One Instagram user, Freddie, wrote: “Kiburi promax. No talent.”

Another, Roy, added: “Na huyu Sabatto hananga kazi ya kufanya.”
