Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated after 19 years of marriage.
The Oscar-winning actress and the country music star, who share two daughters, have reportedly been living apart since June, according to E! News.
While neither has issued a formal statement, sources close to the couple say the split was not what Kidman wanted.
“She didn’t want this. She has been fighting to save the marriage. Nicole’s sister has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” a source told People.
Signs of strain surfaced in June, when Kidman applied for Portuguese residency without Urban.
His absence fueled speculation, though his team explained, “Keith was unable to be in Portugal for this appointment as he is currently on tour in the U.S. … He is scheduled to submit his application at a later date that works with his tour schedule.”
The couple was seen together at a FIFA Club World Cup event in Nashville, shortly after Kidman marked their 19th wedding anniversary on Instagram.
They also appeared together in May when Urban was honoured at the Academy of Country Music Awards with the ACM Triple Crown Award.
They were photographed in their seats, appearing happily in love, kissing and holding hands.
Kidman and Urban’s relationship began in 2005 when they met at a Los Angeles event.
Kidman later admitted, “I had such a crush on him and he wasn’t interested in me. It’s true! He didn’t call me for four months.”
Urban eventually pursued her, later saying, “She’s the one that I was searching for my whole life.”
They married in Sydney the following year.
The marriage, however, endured challenges, including Urban’s battle with addiction.
Reflecting on entering rehab just months after their wedding, Urban said at the AFI Life Achievement Award gala, “Four months into a marriage I’m in rehab for three months … I had no idea what was going to happen to us. If you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl. Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own. And she chose love.”
