Kenyan music veteran Nonini, yesterday, marked his birthday with a special gift for his fans, new music that doubles as therapy and celebration.
The milestone release sees him collaborate with his 13-year-old son, Jay, also known as Good Vibes, in what he describes as a full-circle moment in his 25-year career.
“Turning my personal reflections into a communal Celebration! As i turn 43 today kama tradition ya Genge! Gifting you with some good music and this time round I have brought a friend with me,” Nonini says.
The track, titled Jiamini, carries more than just rhythm and rhyme.
It is a deeply personal project that turns private reflection into a shared experience, inviting fans to connect with the rawness of life’s struggles and triumphs.
Nonini explains: “Rapping is my therapy. When I pour out the highs and lows of life, the challenges that test us, the joys that lift us it heals me. And when my fans connect with those stories, it becomes their therapy too.”
Filmed against the backdrop of Atlanta, Georgia, the video was directed by JetPVCK and captures the essence of a father and son bridging generations through music.
Jay’s fresh energy blends seamlessly with Nonini’s seasoned lyricism, creating a song that symbolises both legacy and renewal.
Jiamini also marks the first time Nonini has shared the microphone with his son, a moment he describes as “360° full circle.” For the rapper, introducing Jay to the global stage is not only about music but about passing on a torch and grounding Kenyan sound in family and authenticity.
The single is part of Nonini’s fifth studio album KTRL, now available on all major streaming platforms.
