Pastor Ng’ang’a: Controversial preacher under fire after wild confessions of indecent assault

Controversial city preacherJames Ng’ang’a has come under heavy criticism after an undated viral video showed him confessing to participating in a gang rape alongside eight others.

In the clip, Ng’ang’a can be heard admitting to committing the crime, a revelation that has sparked outrage among Kenyans, particularly women’s rights advocates.

While the exact context of the video remains unclear, Ng’ang’a appears to be addressing his congregants mid-service.

Among those demanding accountability is Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, who urged authorities to treat the matter seriously.

“We cannot move past such a serious matter without holding space for real accountability. If that video is real, then it is not a sermon; it is a criminal confession. It should have been flagged instantly, and the pastor picked up for questioning by the authorities,” she stated.

Gender-based violence activist Njeri Migwi also joined in, condemning the preacher and calling for his arrest.

“This is NOT okay. This cannot go unanswered. Please do not say this is in the past. He’s a new man and what not. What message is that sending out? Where’s the accountability? So it’s okay to gang rape and move on with your life? Do you see how insidious rape culture is? Hapana,” she wrote.

Online, Kenyans expressed anger at both Ng’ang’a and his loyal followers.

“The worst is that the flock will still come next Sunday to listen to him, offer tithes… Religion is a tool of control and these ‘men of God’ have realised that Kenyans are dumb,” wrote Geoffrey Mut.

I have seen a clip circulating on social media allegedly showing Pastor Ng’ang’a confessing that he and eight others raped a woman. It is no laughing matter. We can not move past such a serious matter without holding space for real accountability.

“I hope one day justice catches up with him. Fate can take a winding path, but we always meet it,” added Mwacha.

In a past interview, Ng’ang’a confessed to serving a jail sentence for being involved in crimes such as robbery.

But Ng’ang’a is no stranger to controversy.

Just weeks ago, he went viral after scolding his congregation for failing to give offerings and tithes.

During the fiery sermon, Ng’ang’a accused members of not contributing to the church’s rent and ordered them to give or leave.

“Na mtoe sadaka, kama hamtaki kutoa mtoke hapa. Hamjalipa nyumba hii, toeni sadaka!” he declared, in a clip that quickly went viral.

He then instructed ushers to bar anyone who had not given their offering.

“Alafu usikuwe unafungulia watu mlango na hawatoi sadaka. Mtakuwa mkitolea kwa mlango pale,” he said, suggesting offerings be collected at the door.

“Mbona mnalipa kwa matatu na hapa hamtaki kulipa? Iyo masaa yote mmekalia kiti, mtakuwa mnalipa na masaa,” he added, reigniting fierce debate about financial accountability in churches.
