Hip-hop artist Henry Ohanga, Octopizzo, has made his intentions clear about contesting for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election.

In a message addressing supporters, Octopizzo emphasised the need for community-centred leadership and called on residents of Kibra to take charge of their political power through voter registration.

He described the process as more than mere paperwork. He argued it is a a powerful tool for empowerment.

“Real change starts with us. Registration isn’t just paperwork, it’s power. It’s how communities that have been overlooked finally speak for themselves and shape the future they deserve,” he wrote.

His message, laced with the Sheng phrase “TUCHUKUENI KURA BANA JO” (Let’s take the vote, guys),

His political platform centres on what he terms “poverty-conscious leadership” and “integrity-driven service,” promising to prioritise dignity, opportunity, and honest governance over the recycled promises of traditional politicians.

“Your vote is your voice. Register. Show up. Participate. For those who believe in community-driven leadership and real solutions, the time for theory is over. The Kibra community deserves representation built on integrity and impact,” he stated.

The announcement follows months of speculation about the rapper’s political aspirations, fuelled by his meeting with former Chief Justice David Maraga in July, where the duo discussed the importance of integrity in public service.

Reactions to the news have been mixed. While many applaud his community ties and social justice advocacy evidenced by his collaborations with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), some sceptics question whether a musician can navigate the complexities of political office.

Dr. Roselyn Akombe, a noted political analyst, endorsed Octopizzo’s call to action, replying to his post with enthusiasm: “Let’s go, Octo!”

“I am so sorry but celebrity figures need to leave Kibra and Langata constituencies very alone,” said X user @Baetho__
