Hiram Gitau, the widower of the late popular Kenyan gospel musician Betty Bayo, has spoken publicly for the first time since the singer’s passing.
During a memorial gathering for Bayo, Hiram expressed gratitude for the support he and his family have received.
“How are you guys? I am Bayo’s husband. Welcome home. I wish to thank you for praying for us and being with us; the support we have gotten from you is incredible,” he said.
He added, “We lived with Betty and the kids here, but they will not address you for now. I welcome you once more,” before handing back the microphone to Terrence Creative, who served as the MC for the event.
The memorial was attended by close family, friends, and fellow artists, including Shiru wa GP and Loise Kim.
Betty Bayo passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, after a brief illness.
Family sources revealed that she had been diagnosed with acute mild leukaemia at an advanced stage.
Initially admitted to AAR Hospital along Kiambu Road, she was later transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on November 7 due to excessive bleeding.
However, despite doctors’ efforts to manage complications, she died while receiving treatment at KNH.
Who is Hiram Gitau?
Hiram Gitau is known for valuing his privacy and maintaining a minimal social media presence.
Most of what is publicly known comes from photos shared with Betty Bayo and her daughter, Sky.
Hiram met Betty in 2019, following her separation from Pastor Victor Kanyari.
The couple dated for two years before tying the knot in a colourful Kikuyu traditional wedding, or ruracio, on December 17, 2021.
Their relationship was often celebrated on social media, with the couple sharing photos that highlighted their bond.
Beyond being a devoted husband, Hiram embraced his role as stepfather to Betty’s children, Sky Victor and Danny.
Sky has previously praised the loving environment created by having both Hiram and Pastor Kanyari in his life.
The family often travelled together, including trips to the United States, showcasing their close-knit bond.
In the wake of Betty Bayo’s death, Hiram has once again been in the public eye, though for deeply personal reasons.
His maturity and discretion in mourning have been widely praised, with many netizens contrasting his quiet strength to Pastor Kanyari, who has publicly expressed his grief.
