American pop star Ariana Grande was attacked by a fan during the Singapore premiere of her new film Wicked: For Good on November 13.
Video footage circulating online shows the man running onto the red carpet and grabbing the singer by the shoulders as she tried to pull away.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly intervened, pushing the man away while security personnel moved him from the scene.
Grande, visibly shaken, took deep breaths as Erivo and Crazy Rich Asians star Michelle Yeoh tried to comfort her.
The incident occurred while Grande, Erivo, Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum were walking the “Yellow Brick Road” carpet at Universal Studios Singapore.
The attacker, identified as Johnson Wen, had black hair with blue streaks and was dressed in a white shirt and shorts.
Wen, who refers to himself online as “Pyjama Man,” has a history of similar stunts.
According to People, he previously jumped on stage during Katy Perry’s June performance and again at The Weeknd’s show in August, both times being removed by security.
Following Grande’s attack, Wen posted a video of the incident on Instagram, writing, “Dear Ariana Grande, Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You.”
Social media users swiftly condemned his behaviour.
Leona Bane wrote, “Why would you want to be known for this?” while Desi Fedell added, “This guy needs to be reprimanded… it’s not normal to do ridiculous things like this.”
One user, Kiara, jokingly commented, “Cynthia Erivo acted faster than the security guys.”
