Creatives from across Kenya will converge this Thursday, November 20, at the Kenya National Theatre to celebrate the life and legacy of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The event, organised by the Institute of Creative Industry and Economy in collaboration with the Kenya Cultural Centre, will feature poetry, skits, music, dance, and panel discussions designed to reflect the life of one of Kenya’s most iconic political figures.
“We are going to celebrate the life and times of Raila Amolo Odinga, who, in many ways, was an artiste in his own right,” said George Orido, producer of the event. Clips from Raila’s Kitendawili and Hadithi Hadithi political storytelling segments will be featured in a specially produced montage.
Mr. Orido, also the founder of the Sanaa Theatre Awards and producer of Obama The Musical, confirmed that event preparations are in full swing and that ODM political leadership has been invited.
“We even travelled to Opoda Farm to personally deliver the invitation to Mama Ida Odinga and the family,” he said.
Confirmed performers include a Nigerian cultural group performing the Yoruba Egwu Egwu dance, reminiscent of the Luo Tero Buru ritual. The University of Nairobi’s Free Travelling Theatre will also participate, alongside award-winning spoken word artist KennetB and contemporary dancers from Tone Theatre Productions.
Jeremiah Ammbbaassaahh will lead the Artist Forum International group in a special performance.
