Man captured in viral assault video forgives employer, vows to continue with job: “‘Nimemsamehea”

A Kenyan man who was filmed being harassed by his employer, a foreign national, now says he has forgiven him and wishes to continue working at the company.

In a video shared on X, the two men shook hands as the employee addressed Kenyans in Swahili.

“Nimemsamehea, mimi sina shida. Nimeachana nayo kwa sababu nataka kuendelea kufanya kazi hapa,” he said, adding that going forward the employer would treat staff with respect and communicate calmly when issues arise.

“Next time kama kuna shida, aniite tuongee kwa ofisi… nakubali makosa yangu. Sitaskiza maneno ya watu. He is my boss na wacha iishe ivo,” he added.

The employer remained silent throughout the video.

The apology followed a viral clip showing the employer, dressed in a black shirt and blue trousers, physically harassing the worker inside an industrial facility.

He was seen hurling objects, including a sheet of metal, at the employee, who did not retaliate and instead moved away as someone recorded the incident.

The video sparked outrage online, with many Kenyans condemning the assault as discriminatory.

Reactions to the apology were mixed.

X user Kim Boville wrote: “He knows he ought to have more respect and leave, but he has a family to feed… these things will imprison you in places you wouldn’t want to be.”

Another user, Machoman, said: “People will tell him to fight back or quit, but after that, only he and his family will suffer… He’s a wise and peaceful man who loves his job.”

User Joan Karii added: “With the power of the internet, he had to apologise.”
