Video: Somali youth knocked by bus during Tiktok shoot in chilling moment

A viral video has captured the moment a Somali youth was knocked down by a speeding bus along the busy Muthaiga Underpass in Nairobi.

The chilling video was captured as the young man and his friends were filming a live TikTok video.

In the footage, the young man, dressed in a sweatshirt, grey jeans and black slides, was seen stepping onto the road, seemingly in the middle of a video shoot for a popular TikTok trend.

He walked past another young man making gestures for the video, but immediately he turned his back toward the road, tragedy struck.

The young man was hit on the face and torso by an orange bus approaching quickly around the bend, which instantly flung him to the side of the road, with the other man jumping away from the scene in fright.

The incident sparked widespread reactions on Kenyan social media platforms, with many urging content creators to exercise caution while recording videos, especially on busy roads.

OneMusic wrote on Instagram, “This man’s content day is over immediately. This is not a proper method for going viral. Well, it’s a method. It’s just not the safest way because you can die.”

Another user, Wairimu Mbue, commented, “Hii sasa watalaumu nani sasa?”

Ann Nyagah questioned, “But honestly, is the matatu speeding ama this guy is absent-minded?”

Instagram user Stunner added, “Ouch! This is so painful. I wish him a quick recovery.”

This is not the first time Somali youth have been thrust into the spotlight over viral videos.

In September, two Somali minors were arrested and charged with desecrating the Kenyan national flag during a football match at Nyayo Stadium.

The viral clip, recorded on September 20, 2025, showed a 17-year-old and a 14-year-old stepping on the flag during a CAF Champions League preliminary match between Somalia’s Mogadishu City Club and Kenya Police FC.

The two, believed to be Mogadishu supporters, were arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and detained at the Gigiri Children’s Protection Unit pending a social inquiry report.

They were later released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 each.

Both the Mogadishu City Club and the Somali Ambassador to Kenya issued formal apologies, condemning the behaviour and distancing themselves from the incident.
