At least two people were shot and killed on Friday in separate incidents linked to cattle rustling in Kuria, Migori County.
Police said tension remained high in the area on Saturday amid concerns of possible retaliatory attacks.
The deaths bring the total number of people killed in the area, extending to Angata Barrikoi, to six over the past week.
Authorities said additional personnel have been deployed to the area to help restore order.
In Kehancha, Sampson Ngera, 52, was shot in the chest and leg before being left at the scene. Police said the motive for the attack is not yet clear, but investigations are ongoing.
His body was taken to the mortuary pending further procedures.
In Ntimaru, Gwitembe, Zakayo Muniko Chacha, 68, was also shot and killed.
Witnesses said the attackers, armed with rifles and crude weapons, stole four goats.
Police who visited the scene recovered five spent cartridges.
According to authorities, the victim sustained gunshot wounds to the groin, cuts to the waist and back, and an arrow was found lodged in his stomach.
The attackers reportedly fled towards the Transmara area. Chacha’s body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Local authorities said the area has seen a rise in cattle rustling incidents in recent days, which has resulted in at least six deaths and damage to several acres of sugarcane plantations. Security meetings are planned to address the issue.
Residents have reportedly armed themselves amid the unrest.
The government has deployed additional personnel, including the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, to respond to the ongoing attacks.
