Two of boxing’s most iconic names; Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Mike “Iron Mike” Tyson are gearing up for what could be one of the most sensational matchups the sport has ever seen, with Africa poised to host the blockbuster showdown.
Rumours of the fight first surfaced in September 2025, and now both legends have confirmed that plans are firmly underway for a 2026 mega–bout. The exhibition clash, expected to take place in March 2026, is being organised by CSI Sports/Fight Sports.
In true Tyson fashion, the heavyweight great acknowledged just how surreal the moment feels; even to him.
“This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen,” Tyson told TMZ. “However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.”
Tyson, known for his brutal power and relentless aggression in his prime, did not shy away from questioning Mayweather’s decision.
“I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this,” he added. “It will be detrimental to his health.”
Mayweather, ever confident and undefeated in his professional career, brushed aside any concerns about his legacy.
“I’ve been doing this for 30 years and there hasn’t been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy,” he said. “You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I’m the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”
Tyson has since posted a social media graphic teasing the bout, all but confirming the showdown that fans across the world once considered a fantasy.
But perhaps the most electrifying detail? The venue.
“It’s going to be in March and it’s going to be in Africa,” Tyson revealed. “This is going to be incredible. We’re going to break all the records. It’s going to be one of the biggest events in the history of the sport.”
