Edgar Obare puts gossip platform BNN up for sale following Sh6m defamation bill

Controversial digital commentator Edgar Obare has announced plans to sell his gossip-driven Instagram platform, BNN.

In a notice shared on his Instagram Stories on Monday, December 15, Obare confirmed that the sale covers the company’s entire digital footprint, including social media accounts, brand identity, data, and registered trademarks.

“FOR SALE: BNN LTD – all digital assets, brand, data, and trademarks. Serious inquiries only. Deposit required,” read the post, emphasising that only genuine buyers would be entertained.

The decision comes weeks after Obare suffered a major legal setback.

On November 7, the High Court ruled against him in a defamation case filed by model Bernice Nunah and a co-plaintiff, ordering him to pay Sh6 million in damages and issue a public apology.

The judgment held Obare liable for a defamatory post published in December 2022.

He was directed to retract and correct the offending publication, issue a full and unconditional apology, and observe a permanent injunction barring further defamatory remarks about Nunah.

Obare runs his commentary through Instagram, the BNN website, and Telegram channels and has faced several legal challenges linked to his content.

The Nunah case stands out as a rare instance where a suit against him has resulted in a decisive court victory for the complainants.

Bernice Nunah is a well-known figure in Kenya’s fashion and media industry, celebrated for her work as a runway and commercial model. She has also built a strong personal brand as an entrepreneur and digital creator, producing lifestyle content focused on luxury, fashion, and travel.
