Former Nickelodeon actor Tylor Chase, best known for playing Martin Qwerly on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, is currently homeless in California, sparking concerns about his mental health and well-being.

According to People, the 36-year-old has repeatedly refused help from authorities and friends, including former co-stars Shaun Weiss and Daniel Curtis Lee, who have offered support and resources.

Police and a mental health crisis team have also intervened, but Chase continues to decline assistance.

Police say the law limits their ability to force someone into treatment. “What we’re seeing play out with Tylor is, unfortunately, something we see every day, not just in Riverside, but across California. From the videos circulating online, it’s clear he is struggling with substance abuse and untreated mental illness. The challenge is that our current mental health system is largely built around personal choice. Even when someone is clearly in crisis, they must voluntarily accept services unless very specific legal thresholds are met,” Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez told People.

The Chief added, “Long before the recent public attention, and continuing since then, outreach teams have been in frequent contact with Tylor and have repeatedly offered services. He has come very close to accepting help, but ultimately that final step must be made by the individual, and at this point he has declined those services.”

Chase’s situation came into the spotlight after a video showed him on the streets of California looking disheveled, wearing dirty clothes and sporting unkempt hair.

In the clip, he identified himself as the Nickelodeon actor, leaving the person filming visibly shocked.

Following the viral video, a mental health crisis team briefly placed Chase on a 36-hour involuntary medical hold. He was released after that period and has since returned to the streets.
