Hollywood veteran Tommy Lee Jones has spoken publicly for the first time following the sudden death of his daughter, Victoria Kafka Jones, who was found unresponsive at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco on New Year’s Day.
The 34-year-old was discovered early in the morning after authorities responded to a medical emergency call at around 2:52 a.m.
Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
While the official cause of death has not yet been released, dispatch audio and early reports have raised the possibility of a suspected overdose, and the San Francisco Police Department, alongside the Chief Medical Examiner’s office, continues to investigate.
Through a family spokesperson, Jones and his family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating, “We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Please respect our privacy during this difficult time. Thank you.”
The message was shared with outlets including NBC News and People.
Victoria was the youngest daughter of Jones and his ex-wife Kimberlea Cloughley, to whom the actor was married from 1981 to 1996.
She had an older brother, Austin Jones, now 43.
Growing up in the shadow of her father’s fame, Victoria appeared alongside him in films during her childhood and teenage years, including a small role in Men in Black II, but she largely stepped away from the public eye in adulthood.
The Fairmont Hotel also released a statement expressing profound sadness over the incident and confirming full cooperation with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.
TMZ first reported the news, citing law enforcement sources, while fans and celebrities quickly took to social media to express their condolences.
On X, users shared their heartbreak, with comments like “So sad” and “Heartbreaking,” reflecting not only on Victoria’s life but also on Tommy Lee Jones’ iconic career in films such as The Fugitive, No Country for Old Men, JFK, and Lincoln, and his longstanding efforts to keep his personal life private.
Victoria’s passing is a profound loss for the reclusive actor, who primarily resides in Texas.
Though she had only a brief public career in acting, her death has brought attention to the unique pressures faced by children of celebrities.
As the investigation continues, the family has asked the public to respect their privacy during this deeply difficult time.
