IShowSpeed touches down in Kenya, kicks off ‘Speed Does Africa’ tour

American internet sensation IShowSpeed has officially landed in Kenya, kicking off his viral “Speed Does Africa” tour in East Africa.

Born Darren Watkins Jr., the 20-year-old content creator arrived in Nairobi on January 11, 2026, greeted by a frenzy of fans and a high-level welcome from the Kenyan government.

The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) confirmed his arrival on X with an energetic post: “SPEED HAS LANDED. Welcome to the 254, @ishowspeedsui. The 254 is ready for the energy.”

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano equally personally extended a warm invitation, framing the visit as a bridge between Kenya’s rich heritage and its digital future.

Kenyans, it’s ON! ? @ishowspeed has LANDED in Magical Kenya—the Origin of Wonder! ?? Get ready for epic vibes: Nairobi streets to Maasai Mara magic, live to 80M+ fans. Speed, welcome home to a place like nowhere else! #iShowSpeedInKenya #MagicalKenya pic.twitter.com/KSKdbo8AIG

“Kenya is uniquely positioned at the intersection of ancient heritage and a fearless future. Our traditions are ‘out of this world’ because they aren’t just kept in museums—they are lived every day in our music, our food, and our legendary Matatu culture,” Miano said.

She also invited the streamer to sample local favourites, including Ugali, Nyamachoma, and spicy Kachumbari, even though some netizens appealed to the government to steer away from publicity stunts with his visit.

“Where were you when @wode_maya was showcasing Kenya to the world? Let’s celebrate our African brothers who have proudly promoted our country’s tourism globally,” asked one.

On the post, netizens also noted that CS Miano had tagged the wrong account while referring to the content creator.

Speed’s visit is a major moment for regional content creation.

He has already been spotted with young Ugandan viral star Tenge Tenge in Nairobi, and the duo is expected to collaborate on multiple projects.

The most anticipated event of the trip may be a race on the track with Kenyan sprint champion Ferdinand Omanyala.

The athlete teased the showdown on X, joking: “I will whoop him by the third step.”

If it happens, the race could set new viewership records for African livestreams.

As expected, Kenyans on X (KOT) had plenty to say about the visit.

Fans like Watson KE expressed excitement: “Kenya will blow your mind.” Others called for authenticity over spectacle.

“Nice effort, but let’s keep it simple,” wrote Guda Experience.

“Speed just came to vibe, not read a tourism brochure. Kenya sells itself—Nyamachoma, Nganya culture, and our warmth. No need for too much drama, just let him enjoy Magical Kenya.”

With a 28-day tour spanning 20 countries, Speed’s Kenyan leg is already proving to be one of the most significant stops, turning the global spotlight onto Kenya’s “Home of Champions” spirit.
