Support poured in for the family of Renee Nicole Good, an educator and mother fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026.
The GoFundMe campaign raised more than Sh193,936,923 ($1,503,387), far exceeding its original Sh6,450,000 ($50,000) target, according to TMZ.
The fundraiser was launched shortly after Good’s death to help her family cope with the financial and emotional aftermath of the tragedy.
Donations surged quickly, reaching more than Sh70,950,000 ($550,000) within the first 24 hours, before ultimately topping Sh193,936,923 ($1,503,387), demonstrating the widespread support for the family.
Organizers described Good as a radiant presence in her community. The campaign’s description called her “pure sunshine” and asked supporters to help her loved ones during a “devastating loss.”
In a statement posted as the fundraiser closed, organizer Mattie Weiss thanked donors for their generosity and said the funds would be placed in a trust for the family:
“Thank you for your generosity. We’ve closed this GoFundMe and will place the funds in a trust for the family. If you’re looking to donate, we encourage you to support others in need. We’re truly grateful.”
Weiss also shared a message from Good’s family expressing deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from across the country and around the world:
“First, I want to extend my gratitude to all the people who have reached out from across the country and around the world to support our family. This kindness of strangers is the most fitting tribute because if you ever encountered my wife, Renee Nicole Macklin Good, you know that above all else, she was kind. In fact, kindness radiated out of her.”
Good’s death sparked national attention, protests, and debate over federal law enforcement use of force.
Tens of thousands rallied in Minneapolis, while demonstrations were held in cities across the United States.
Critics questioned the circumstances of the shooting and called for accountability and reform in immigration enforcement.
The fatal encounter is now under federal investigation, and local officials continue to face scrutiny over the use of deadly force by the ICE officer involved.
