Gospel music fans in Kenya are in for a treat this Sunday as US-based gospel artiste Barakito Rodrigue returns home for a live recording titled “God is Still Working”. The event promises a day of music, thanksgiving and powerful worship, bringing together some of East Africa’s top gospel performers in what is being described as a historic celebration of faith, music, and community.

For Barakito, who spent his formative years in Kenya before relocating to the United States 15 years ago, the event is deeply personal. It is, first and foremost, a way to thank the people of Kenya, who nurtured his faith and early musical journey.

“This event is a way of saying thank you to Kenya and to everyone who has supported me since my childhood,” Barakito said.

What makes this live recording unique is not just the music but the collaboration. The album will feature 10 original songs, several of which include performances from celebrated East African gospel artistes such as Solomon Mkubwa, Andrew Ngelelo, David Kasika, Pst Tumaini, Guardian Angel and Victor Maestro from Tanzania.

In an industry where live events often feature either one established name or multiple emerging artists, Barakito’s approach is a departure. He brings together a collection of legends, giving fans a rare opportunity to see some of East Africa’s most influential gospel performers perform new music live on stage.

“We wanted to create something different,” Barakito explained. “Bringing together the best of East African live performers in one event allows us to create an authentic worship experience that resonates with everyone present.”

“Live recordings are more original and authentic,” Barakito said. “During these events, there is usually a special encounter, a move of God that lifts the music and the audience. It’s an experience that resonates far beyond the recording itself.”

Returning to Kenya after 15 years, Barakito views the event as a homecoming. It is an opportunity to reconnect with the people who shaped his early life, and to celebrate with those who have supported him over the years.

“This project is about growth,” he explained. “It allows me to build new support systems while strengthening the connections I already have with my fans here in Kenya. Coming back to Kenya, it feels like a family reunion,” he said.

“I want the people who have stood by me to be part of this moment.”

The live recording of “God is Still Working” is set to take place on Sunday, January 18, starting at 1 pm at the Kenya National Theatre, and entry is free for all attendees, making it accessible to gospel fans across the city.

With the legendary lineup, powerful messaging, and live production, the event is poised to be a historic moment in East African gospel music, promising inspiration, worship, and a memorable musical experience for everyone present.
