A giant swing called ‘Tsunami’ collapsed at the Surajkund International Crafts Mela in India, killing a police officer and sending eleven others to the hospital.

The incident occurred during peak hours, forcing an immediate shutdown of the amusement ride.

Footage seen by TNX Africa shows the swing completing several rotations before suddenly breaking while people were on board.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunny, who filed a formal complaint, told CNN that the atmosphere had been festive as visitors enjoyed the ride when the machinery failed mid-air.

Inspector Prasad rushed to help those trapped, but the swing broke from its mount on one side and crashed down. Prasad later died in the hospital from his injuries.

Authorities have held Mohammad Shakir, owner of Himachal Fun Care, responsible. His company operated the ‘Tsunami’ ride, which failed from its supports, leading to one death and multiple injuries.

The video has gone viral on social media, drawing a mix of shock and outrage.

Instagram user Stay Easy commented, “I don’t know why people still trust rides at these local fairs. I’m sure they don’t get regular inspections.” Ashizzle added, “What is this? The fifth ride failure in India in the past couple of years? Prayers to their families and friends.”

DJPV wrote, “I don’t know what’s more heartbreaking, the loss of lives, or the flood of racist and stereotypical comments in the section.”

Another user, Thunder, said, “Don’t blame the wind… it was overcrowded, and they never do any maintenance.”

The tragedy echoes a similar incident in Saudi Arabia in July 2025, when the ‘360 Big Pendulum’ rollercoaster in Al-Hada suffered a mechanical fracture, injuring 23 people, three seriously, after smashing into its framework and hitting the ground, CNN reported.
