“Nimfundishe adabu?” Jackie Matubia weighs police action after losing Sh7,000 to wrong-number

A single-digit typo was all it took for Jackie Matubia’s Sh7,000 transaction to turn from a routine payment into a viral hunt for justice.

The celebrated actress is speaking out after an accidental transfer went to a stranger who, instead of returning the funds, pocketed the cash and vanished.

Initially, Jackie hoped the recipient would possess the integrity to rectify the error.

Seeing the stranger’s full name offered a sense of security.

“Because her three names were there, I was like, she looks like a good lady,” Jackie shared. However, that faith was met with the cold reality of a dial tone. “I think when she realized, she hung up. When I called again, of course, she was offline.”

The betrayal stung further when Jackie contacted her bank, only to be told the window for a reversal had closed.

“I called the bank, and they told me that the money has been used,” she revealed. The situation has left her feeling exploited, especially since she was willing to be generous.

“I want to teach her a lesson because she has simply refused to refund the money… even if she tells me to keep Sh2,000 and sends the rest, it’s fine. But switching off your phone!”

Now, the actress finds herself in a moral tug-of-war, torn between her faith and the harsh economic climate.

“As a Christian, I’m asking myself, what am I supposed to do? Nimfundishe adabu? Sh7,000 with this economy,” she lamented, noting the loss hits hard.

“I’m also struggling. Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, I want to go to the police station. I want the police to follow up so she gets caught. I feel so bad. I had hopes in this person.”
