Drama unfolded at the Allsops junction in Nairobi after a man blocked a matatu that had mounted the pedestrian walkway in a bid to escape traffic.
In a viral video shared on X, the man, carrying a laptop bag and shopping, is seen standing firmly in front of the vehicle, confronting the driver for using the pavement meant for pedestrians.
Calling out the driver, he questioned where pedestrians were expected to walk if matatus took over their path.
“Unataka tupitie wapi? Hii ni barabara ya watu. It doesn’t matter, nitasimama hapa,” he said.
A woman walking past joined the confrontation, blasting the Neema Sacco driver for driving on the pavement. Dressed in a red jacket, she urged the man not to move.

“Usitoke, simama hapo,” she said before walking away.
As a crowd began to form, a tout from another matatu stuck in traffic across the road joined the fray, telling the man to move and warning that he could cause an accident.
“Mochari haijajaa watu na kaburi haijashiba… toka hapo,” the conductor, dressed in maroon, shouted.
Angered by the remarks, the man fired back: “Si ukuje uchukue gari unigonge.”
The person behind the clip later walked away, capturing the matatu’s number plate.
Kenyans on X reacted strongly, with many tagging NTSA and demanding action, with many calling for the suspension of the driver and his tout.
Some also noted that apart from the woman in red, no other pedestrian supported the man, noting that doing the right thing in the country often feels like a punishment.
