Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi
The Kiambu County government has accused a
group of political leaders of spreading false information on social media to
discredit Governor Kimani Wamatangi, describing the campaign as coordinated and
politically motivated.
In a statement dated February 12, 2026, the
Directorate of Communication in the Office of the County Governor said it had
observed what it termed a sustained online campaign targeting the governor and
the county administration.
The statement attributed the content to certain
Members of Parliament and individuals described as their online supporters.
“We have taken note of a sustained and clearly
orchestrated wave of propaganda and gutter politics flooding social media
peddled by certain Members of Parliament (MPs) and their bloggers, targeting
His Excellency Governor Kimani Wamatangi and the County Government of Kiambu,”
the statement said.
The county government rejected the claims
circulating online, arguing that they did not amount to legitimate scrutiny of
public office.
“This is not constructive criticism or honest debate. It is
naked desperation by a small clique of disgruntled Kiambu politicians trying to
claw their way back into relevance by peddling lies and half-truths,” it said.
According to the statement, the individuals
behind the campaign were seeking to undermine the governor’s record by
spreading misleading material.
The county administration alleged that images
and information shared online were being misrepresented to create a negative
impression of Kiambu’s health and emergency services.
The statement claimed that images sourced from
outside the county were being falsely presented as local scenes, including
photographs said to depict bodies in mortuaries and ambulances in poor
condition.
The county government described this as a deliberate attempt to
mislead the public and influence political opinion against the governor.
“This is a well-calculated and cynical
deception aimed at misleading the public and trying to poison the political
environment against Governor Wamatangi,” the statement said.
The Directorate of Communication said those
criticising the governor should instead engage on the basis of performance and
policy.
“If anyone wishes to challenge Governor Wamatangi, let them do so with
a solid track record or a serious and believable plan to surpass what has
already been achieved,” the statement said.
It further argued that comparisons based on
development outcomes favoured the current administration, asserting that the
governor’s record made it difficult for opponents to mount a credible
challenge.
“The reality, however, is that Governor Wamatangi has set the bar so
high that confronting him on performance and delivery would brutally expose
just how empty and out of their depth his opponents really are,” it added.
The statement listed what it described as key
achievements delivered under Governor Wamatangi’s leadership over the past
three years.
These included the construction of 512 Early Childhood Development
Education centres and the rollout of an ECDE feeding programme serving 48,000
learners.
It also cited the establishment of six Level IV hospitals and 26
Level III hospitals, and the installation of more than 12,000 solar-powered
streetlights across the county.
Other initiatives mentioned included the
distribution of improved indigenous chicks to 120,000 women, piglets to more
than 50,000 men, and maize seeds and fertiliser to over 600,000 farmers.
The
county government also pointed to the construction of eight new bus parks and
16 new markets, as well as an increase in own-source revenue from Sh2.9 billion
to Sh5.45 billion.
“These tangible deliverables exceed
expectations and fulfil devolution’s promise, demonstrating that its indeed
possible for a leader to be re-elected based on track record and not
theatrics,” the statement said.
The county government maintained that voters
were capable of distinguishing between political messaging and service
delivery.
“They know the difference between politics and progress, and no
amount of cheap propaganda, recycled lies or manufactured scandals will erase
the real and measurable gains that have been made under Governor Wamatangi’s
leadership,” it said.
The statement was issued by the Directorate of
Communication in the Office of the County Governor of Kiambu.
