Popular digital creator Arap Uria has ignited a nationwide wave of emotion after leading a dramatic rescue campaign for a gravely ill Bomet man; and now he is taking the plea straight to the country’s highest office.

Through his online movement Team Strong Family, the influencer mobilized Sh1.73 million in record time for Robert Mutai, a Chelemei village resident whose life has been devastated by a mysterious and aggressive illness that has eaten away parts of his face over a painful 23-year battle.

But for Uria and his supporters, the fundraiser is only the beginning.

In a bold public appeal addressed directly to President William Ruto, the team is calling for urgent state intervention; arguing that Mutai’s condition now demands specialized treatment beyond what ordinary fundraising can sustain.

What began as what Mutai’s family thought was a harmless blemish on his nose spiraled into a catastrophic medical nightmare. Over two decades, the disease progressively destroyed his nose, upper jaw, and eyesight; leaving him physically and emotionally shattered.

His family fought relentlessly, selling land, livestock, and every possession they owned in pursuit of treatment.

Eventually, the money ran out. So did their options.

Moved by Mutai’s condition, Uria traveled from Eldoret to Bomet East to document the family’s plight; a decision that triggered an avalanche of goodwill across social media.

Donations poured in from Kenyans touched by the heartbreaking story, demonstrating once again how online communities can mobilize real-world change.
Yet Uria insists the case requires more than goodwill.

In the emotional appeal, Team Strong Family described the President as a listening leader known for stepping in when citizens hit rock bottom. They framed Mutai’s situation as a defining humanitarian moment — one where national leadership could transform despair into hope.

Under the hashtag #IfikiePresident, Kenyans continue to amplify the call, hoping the message reaches State House. Supporters are urging a government-backed medical evacuation or access to specialized care that could offer Mutai his first real chance at recovery in decades.
