President William Ruto has announced a series of multi-billion development projects in Siaya County, including roads, housing, electricity and
blue economy investments aimed at boosting the region’s economy.
Speaking during a visit to Bondo on Sunday, President Ruto said that they want to ensure that Siaya county is not left behind in terms of development.
The president said the government was committed to ensuring equitable development across all counties.
Ruto revealed that the government is constructing 300 kilometres of tarmac roads across Siaya to improve transport and stimulate economic growth.
The president also said the government is implementing major housing and market projects in the county.
“In Siaya we are constructing 8,000 affordable housing units, 28 modern markets, and 1,000 hostels. Altogether we are investing about Sh28 billion in housing, hostels, markets, and related infrastructure,” he said.
Ruto further talked about the ongoing works and upgrading of the Siaya Stadium saying he will make sure it’s done to the international standards.
He said the stadium will host this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations in December once construction is completed.
In the health sector, the President said the government will invest Sh700 million to upgrade a hospital in Siaya to Level Six status, reducing the need for patients to travel to Kisumu or Eldoret for specialised treatment.
He also highlighted ongoing electrification programmes led by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, saying the government has allocated Sh1.6 billion to expand electricity access in the county and an additional amount to make it 2.1 billion will be added in the budget to aid the same.
The President also outlined investments in the blue economy sector around Usenge Beach, including construction of a pier and fish landing sites.
“I will be back to Siaya next month for development projects. Among them include roads, pier at Usenge Beach, and fish landing sites ”.
Ruto said the project will create employment opportunities for young people while promoting fishing and lake-based trade.
He added that the government will invest Sh10 billion in blue economy initiatives across the Nyanza Region.
In the education sector, the President announced Sh1 billion for infrastructure development at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, including the construction of hostels and completion of key facilities.
The projects, he said, are part of the government’s broader plan to ensure balanced development across the country.
“We want to develop every part of Kenya equally so that all citizens benefit from development,” Ruto said.
