Former Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has been laid to rest in his home country of Turkey following his sudden death that shocked the football fraternity in Kenya and beyond.

The experienced tactician was buried, in the Kemer District of Antalya Province after a funeral conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions.

Family members, friends and close associates gathered for Janazah prayers, which were held after the Dhuhr (midday) prayer before the burial.

Firat’s sudden passing sent waves of grief across the football world, particularly among Kenyan fans and players who had come to respect his contribution to the national team.

Reports indicate that the veteran coach collapsed at an airport on Sunday after suffering what is believed to have been a heart attack. People nearby reportedly rushed to assist him and attempted to provide emergency help, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

During his tenure as head coach of Kenya national football team, Firat was widely credited with bringing discipline and tactical structure to the side.
