The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced the disbursement of Sh11.1 billion to healthcare providers to settle approved claims under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
The authority said the disbursement process officially commenced on Friday, March 13, 2026, and is expected to continue through Thursday, March 19, 2026, by which time all successfully processed claims should be settled.
SHA advised healthcare facilities to allow the payment cycle to run its course and to wait until the end of the cycle before raising any inquiries about pending funds.
The authority further stated that any facility that does not receive payment by Friday, March 20, 2026, can contact dedicated support teams for clarifications and reconciliation assistance.
In a statement, SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr Mercy Mwangangi expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation and commitment of healthcare providers.
“SHA highly values the continued partnership and dedication of all our contracted healthcare providers in ensuring the delivery of uninterrupted, quality healthcare services to the public,” she said.
“Should any facility not receive payment for their approved claims by the conclusion of this cycle, our dedicated support teams will be readily available from Friday, March 20, 2026, to provide the necessary clarifications and assist with reconciliations.”
The Social Health Authority is established under section 25 of the Act and is utilised to pool all contributions made under the Act.
SHA is designed to provide healthcare services from empanelled and contracted healthcare providers and healthcare facilities on referral from primary health facilities.
The Social Health Authority ensures that every resident in Kenya can access a comprehensive range of quality health services they need without the burden of financial hardship.
The benefits under the Social Health Authority include Preventive, Promotive, Curative, Rehabilitative and Palliative health services.
These are provided at level 4, 5, and 6 health facilities under the fund.
The Social Health Authority covers integrated preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative health services at level 4, 5, and 6 health facilities.
This includes emergency services, critical care services beyond the benefits in the essential healthcare benefits package, treatment and management of chronic illnesses beyond the benefits in the essential healthcare benefits package of the Social Health Authority.
